Joining The South Florida Producer Group, and Other Stuff

I was once (somehow) a resident DJ for a popular nightclub in my hometown for over a year. Eventually, I had to learn on my feet how to run street-team promotions. I learned the basics of social media marketing, SEO, website design, and E-Mail marketing on the fly, which all led me into the great career I'm in now.

Around 2008-09, I helped start the "Rochester Institute of Technology EDM Club" with Ryan Gaynor aka DJ RPG (which he's still running and absolutely kicking ass with, by the way). I also did a (very) short stint as a board member in the Social Media Club of Buffalo, right before moving down to Florida. All gigs and roles that in many ways prepared me to contribute to something larger, later on.

I moved to Fort Lauderdale about 3 years ago. Over the past few months I've somehow found myself become part of the "South Florida Producer Group". I'm excited and grateful to be involved in this project. It's still in its early stages, but the potential behind it is enormous – especially due to the support of a venue like Cash Only Barand the people running it.

In the past months, the group has attracted some of the most enthusiastic and talented people I've ever met, and I'm looking forward to seeing how far we can take it. I'm looking forward to learning and absorbing knowledge in the upcoming speaker events and workshops we have planned. Tonight's meeting though, I feel, was one of those moments where it feels like we're on the verge of taking this loosely formed networking and discussion group and turning it into a force for good in the area in terms of education, networking, and of course - showing people a good time.

This group is exactly the reason (among many others) why I decided to just blindly move down here to Fort Lauderdale for in 2015 with no job or apartment lined up at the time. I knew I had to become part of the professional side of the so-called "scene", I just didn't know where, how, or when.

I guess the main point of this post is that the destination or 'goal' isn't always clear at first, but sometimes the paths to getting there become clearer the further you wander. We'll see where I end up.
